SAN JOSE — Traffic detectives are investigating the city’s second pedestrian death in three days after a driver hit and killed a person walking near Story and King roads Tuesday morning, police said.

The fatal collision was reported at 11:19 a.m. at one of the city’s busiest intersections, according to a social-media post by the San Jose Police Department. The person who was hit died at the scene; the involved driver stopped and spoke to investigators, police said.

Surrounding roadways were closed while the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit examined the collision site, police said, adding that motorists should avoid the area.

On Sunday evening, a man walking near South Bascom Avenue and Borello Drive in West San Jose was killed by a hit-and-run driver; and police have not announced any arrests or suspect information in that instance.

The Sunday and Tuesday collisions marked the city’s first two roadway deaths of the year. Two traffic deaths were recorded by the same point in 2025, with both victims also being pedestrians, according to data compiled by this news organization.
