BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Houchin Community Blood Bank is issuing an immediate emergency plea for blood donors following the 30+ vehicle crash on Highway 58 near Towerline Road Tuesday morning.

According to CHP, injuries from the crash range from minor to major.

Houchin Community Blood Bank said in a release that they are currently rushing significant amounts of blood and blood products to the trauma center, Kern Medical, to treat those who are injured.

“We were already facing a shortage due to the storms disrupting our imports,” said Anna Kazaryan, Director Of Donor Relations. “Now, with this tragic accident on Highway 58, we are in a worst case scenario. We cannot rely on shipments from other states right now, we need our local community to roll up their sleeves immediately.”

Houchin Community Blood Bank said there is a critical, immediate need for the following types to support trauma patients.

O-Negative: Essential for trauma patients when there is no time to determine blood type.O-PositiveA-Positive
