Reported shots fired in Rancho Cordova prompted a heavy response from Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday.
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Four people, including two children, have been found dead in a home after reports of shots being fired in Rancho Cordova, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s office said.
Homicide detectives are on scene investigating a shooting along the 5400 block of Mill Water Circle, according to law enforcement.
The sheriff’s office said they received a call around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday from an individual reporting shots fired in the area of Copper Sunset Way.
The sheriff’s office said five minutes after that call, they received a call from someone claiming they had fired shots and were setting up “booby traps” in the area.
Once deputies arrived, they began evacuating the area and established a perimeter.
The SWAT team and a special enforcement detail were called, and continued notifications were issued for people inside the home to come out.
A law enforcement official said a specialized vehicle was used to rip through a rear fence of the house, and a drone was used to fly inside.
Upon further investigation, deputies found four people dead in the home.
“Unfortunately, one female and two juveniles were also located unresponsive inside the home. Fire responded as well, and all four subjects inside were pronounced dead,” said Sgt. Edward Igoe with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said they are working to confirm the ages of all four people. The Sacramento County Coroner will release their identities after notifying their next of kin.
Officials said this is an active investigation, and more information will be provided when available.
