Re “Man shot, killed by federal agents in Minneapolis” (Jan. 25): Involvement with federal agents puts one in harm’s way. Call it courage or foolishness, but no one can dispute Alex Pretti’s legal right to do so in a nonviolent manner.

Federal agents are trained in “fire discipline,” part of which mandates the use of lethal weapons only as a last resort.

A New York Times video illustrates this travesty: Were the seven agents who surrounded him unable to control an unarmed man on his knees and thus forced to fire at him four times in self-defense? Or did they lose control of what was likely an already-dead man lying in the street and fire at him six more times in self-defense?

Federal agents caught up in the heat of the moment engaged in an act of pure terror. God help us when such acts are committed by our own law enforcement officers.
