SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis returns to action this week, welcoming UC San Diego to the Aztec Tennis Center for a Saturday morning matchup, beginning at 10:30 a.m. PT.

The Aztecs enter the contest 1-1 on the season, most recently falling 5-2 to No. 17 UCLA on Jan. 18 after sweeping Point Loma 7-0 in their season opener. The team was scheduled to compete in ITA Kickoff Weekend in Athens, Ga., however the event was canceled due to severe weather conditions.
This week, Jo-Yee Chan, the 88th-ranked singles player in the nation, made it through the qualifying rounds and into the main draw at the San Diego Open after taking down the No. 550 and 860 players in the world. The senior also made it to the doubles quarterfinal, playing alongside freshman Vessa Turley. The 23rd-ranked doubles team earned a first round victory on Wednesday.
UC San Diego holds a 3-2 overall record and is currently on a three-match winning streak, most recently defeating Point Loma 4-0 on Thursday. The Tritons also have wins against DePaul (5-2) and Grand Canyon (4-0). Their two losses on the season came against San Diego (2-5) and Arizona (0-7).
The last time the two programs met was on Jan. 30, 2024, with San Diego State taking the match 5-2.
Following Saturday’s contest, the Aztecs will host Long Beach State at 1 p.m. PT on Feb. 8.
