BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — CHP’s Traffic Incident Page said about 60 vehicles were involved in a crash on northbound Highway 99 as well as crashes on southbound lanes near Earlimart Saturday morning. The crashes caused closures for both sides of the highway.

The CHP’s website said on January 31, 2025, at around 8:16 a.m., it was initially reported that 15 vehicles were involved in a crash on northbound Highway 99 near Avenue 24.

Within minutes, the number of vehicles involved climbed to 20.

The CHP’s website said at around 8:43 a.m. that 60 to 80 vehicles were involved.

An official with CHP Visalia said a crash was also reported on the southbound lanes.

CHP said both northbound and southbound Highway 99 is closed.

Northbound traffic is being diverted off Cecil Avenue. Southbound traffic is being diverted off of Avenue 48.

CHP said there were injuries, details on the extent were unavailable at the time. No deaths were reported.

CHP said dense fog is a contributing factor, with less than 200 feet of visibility.
