The San Francisco 49ers finished their 2025 season with a 12-5 record, which was good enough to make the postseason as the sixth seed in the conference. Unfortunately, their chase for a Lombardi Trophy ended in a divisional-round loss to the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks.
While the Seahawks and New England Patriots are gearing up for the Super Bowl, the 49ers are using this time to reflect on the year that was and prepare for the upcoming season.
We’ll do the same, and today, we’re evaluating the play of San Francisco’s quarterbacks throughout 2025. Here’s their final report card for the season.
Brock Purdy: B+
Purdy started just nine games in 2025 due to a toe injury that even limited him a bit on the field. He still led the team to a 7-2 record while completing 69.4% of his passes for 2,167 yards, 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This wasn’t his best year since taking over as the starter, but he did his job.

Jones signed a two-year deal with the 49ers last offseason after a rough ending to his time in New England and an ugly stint in Jacksonville. He looked much better in San Francisco, leading the team to a 5-3 record in his eight starts while completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He’s set himself up as the best backup in the league, which could land him a starting job either in a trade for 2026 or as a free agent in 2027.
Adrian Martinez: INC
Martinez originally joined the 49ers practice squad in August but was promoted to the active roster in October with Jones and Purdy both injured. He took the field for one play (a kneeldown) against the New York Giants, making it his first snap in the NFL. The 26-year-old was waived in November, bounced from the 49ers’ practice squad to the New York Jets’ practice squad and back to San Francisco’s. He’s signed to a reserves/futures deal for the offseason, so he’ll have a shot to compete for a practice squad spot in 2026.
Kurtis Rourke: INC
Rourke was one of San Francisco’s seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft, but he missed his entire rookie campaign while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered at Indiana. He was back practicing at the end of the year, but was never needed to play. Entering 2026, he’ll likely compete with Martinez for that final spot in the quarterback room.
