SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis won the doubles point, as well as matches on courts one, four and six, en route to a 4-0 sweep of UC San Diego at the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday morning. The Aztecs improve to 2-1 on the season while the Tritons fall to 3-3.
Gloria Alogo and Liisa Varul were the first to get off the court in doubles competition after taking down Hana Gamracy and Kamya Nair by a score of 6-2 on court three. Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache then captured the point with a 6-2 victory over Alisa Lansky and Allison Lian on court two. No. 23 Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley held a 5-4 lead over Olivia Allegre and Julia Visaya on the top court when the point was clinched.
Varul gave the Aztecs a 2-0 advantage, defeating Nair 6-3, 6-2 in the sixth spot. No. 88 Chan then put another point on the board, taking the top court matchup by a score of 6-4, 6-3 over Allegre. Clemens was the clincher for San Diego State, securing a team victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Visaya on court four.
Martinache was neck-and-neck with Gamracy 6-0, 3-6, 1-1 in the second spot, while Tirunelveli was ahead 6-2, 3-5 over Lian on the fifth court. Alogo won her first set 6-1 against Lansky on court three, but dropped the second 3-6 and was behind 0-1 in the third when the match was called.
Next up, the team will welcome Long Beach State to the Aztec Tennis Center at 1 p.m. on Feb. 8.
