BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department announced 2 vehicles were impounded on Friday for unsafe driving in the Mesa Marin Park area. Many more individuals are expected to be cited as the investigation continues.

Officers received multiple 911 calls reporting a large vehicle gathering and unsafe driving activity in the area of Mesa Marin Park, Hwy. 178 and the City in the Hills neighborhood on Jan. 30, 2026, around 10:00 p.m.

When they arrived, they found several hundred vehicles gathered in a parking lot, with some engaging in unsafe and unlawful driving behavior.

Officers say they focused on public safety, crowd dispersal and a coordinated enforcement response.

Two vehicles were impounded for reckless driving. Several others have been identified through on-scene observation and follow-up investigation.
