Three young men in San Bernardino County were arrested after an alleged drunken high-speed pursuit where two passengers in vehicle hurled beer cans at deputies pursuing them.

In a news release, investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the incident began around 2:15 a.m. Feb. 1 near the intersection of Sand Canyon Road and Campus Drive, outside the Crafton Hills College campus in Yucaipa.

SBSD Deputy Victor Chavez reported witnessing the driver of a white 2010 Infiniti G37 doing “donuts” at the intersection and attempted an enforcement stop with lights and sirens for reckless driving.

“The Infiniti sped away from Deputy Chavez while the passengers threw beer cans out the windows,” the release stated.

The driver, later identified 21-year-old Yucaipa resident Christian Ivan Rios, reportedly hit speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour on Yucaipa Boulevard while blowing through red lights at numerous intersections.

It’s unclear how long the chase, which remained on surface streets in residential neighborhoods, lasted before Rios reportedly pulled into a driveway on Kentucky Street approximately a mile from where the pursuit started.

Rios and two passengers, later identified as 21-year-old Jerry Barrientos and 24-year-old Adrian Adono, both residents of Yucaipa, jumped out of the vehicle and ran through the yard before they were taken into custody by deputies, investigators said.

Rios is facing charges of exhibition of speed, reckless driving, felony evading and driving under the influence, while Adono and Barrientos are facing charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest. All three were booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.

Authorities said that per California law, Rios’ vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
