Prince Harry may be a recent Californian, but he knows what he’s doing on a surfboard.

A new social media video features the Duke of Sussex, 41, cutting through the waves at a man-made surfing center.

Harry, who would surf in Cornwall, south west England, in his youth, honed his skills once he moved to California in 2020, and his wife, Meghan Markle, reportedly bought him lessons for his birthday after their move to the United States.

The video shows how much Harry has taken to California’s official sport. The series of clips, including one apparently at night, shows him riding the waves and even giving a thumbs up at the end of one successful run.

The film, released by professional surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer, seems to be from Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California.

Van Bastolaer appears on another board, coming up alongside Harry, on some of the rides. “Cannot stop you my brother for having a good time,” he wrote in the post on Jan. 31.

When Harry and Meghan relocated from the U.K. to her home state of California in 2020, it was reported that she bought him surf lessons as a birthday present when he turned 36.

Harry returned to the U.S. on Jan. 24 after an emotionally-draining week in London, where he gave evidence at a legal case he and others are taking against the publishers of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspapers. He headed from there to Park City, Utah, where he joined Meghan, 44, to promote the film Cookie Queens, as they are executive producers of the charming documentary via their Archewell Productions.

There, Meghan hinted that there may be a future Girl Scout in the couple’s daughter, Princess Lilibet. Asked whether Lilibet, 4, will join the American scouting organization for girls and young women one day, she said in a video shared by Deadline, “It’s interesting, I think we’ll continue to explore whatever feels right.”
