BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — CSU Bakersfield campus closed Monday due to an anonymous threat, according to its website. Officials announced that the campus will reopen, and classes will resume on Tuesday, February 3, at regular hours.
There was no active threat, CSUB said.
An official with CSUB said on February 2, 2026, at around 2:45 p.m., they received an anonymous call from a person who claimed they had a gun and were going to shoot up the campus and blow themselves up.
The campus was on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
Students and staff were actively sheltering in place before evacuating.
BPD and University Police were blocking all entrances to campus. KCSO deputies were also on campus to assist.
Officials said as of 3:30 p.m., there is no active shooter on campus.
The CSUB website said all classes are cancelled effective immediately.
Bakersfield Southwest Campus is also on lockdown, according to their website. BC emphasizes the lockdown is ONLY for the BC Southwest Campus.
All BC Southwest Campus classes beginning at 3:45 p.m. and after are cancelled for Monday.

The CSUB website said campus evacuations were underway with the campus closed for the rest of the day and evening.
