San Francisco firefighters battled a one-alarm fire at one of the city’s most popular late-night dining spots early Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

Crews responded to Mel’s Drive-In in the 2100 block of Lombard Street, where the fire started in the kitchen’s flue area. No injuries were immediately reported.

Fire officials said the damage to the kitchen is bad enough that the restaurant might stay closed for the next few weeks.

Lombard Street was closed between Fillmore and Steiner streets. Police and fire officials urged people to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The cause of the fire was not immediately released.
