Los Angeles will host the Olympics in 2028, but some events will take place in the Bay Area.
San Jose and five other cities across the United States will host group stage and knockout round soccer matches.
The matches will also be played in New York City; Columbus, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; and San Diego, organizers said on Tuesday.
LA 2028 chief executive Reynold Hoover told International Olympic Committee members the Games would be played in “premier existing Major League Soccer stadiums.”
The six facilities are New York City FC’s new stadium in Queens, New York (opening for 2027 season) and the homes of the Columbus Crew, Nashville SC, St. Louis City SC, San Jose Earthquakes and San Diego FC.
“Bringing Olympic Football group stage and knockout matches to stadiums across the United States means more fans will witness this global event and experience the Olympic spirit firsthand,” said Shana Ferguson, LA28 Chief of Sport and Games Delivery Officer. “With the LA28 Ticket Draw for all Olympic sports on the horizon, we’re inviting global Football fans to register now for a chance to secure their tickets to history in the summer of 2028.”
The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, was previously confirmed to host knockout and medal games. There will be 16 teams in the women’s tournament and 12 teams in the men’s tournament.
