Oilers' #13 Mattias Janmark

Despite his brief moment in the sun during the first-round of last year’s playoffs, Mattias Janmark has done little to nothing to justify his place on Edmonton’s active roster.

Oilers must consider parting ways with forward

What seems most surprising is that Janmark was able to negotiate a modified no-trade clause in his contract with Edmonton in July of 2024. At the time, his production was again almost non-existent, and yet he received an AAV of $1.45M for three years.

Over 40 games this year, he has 1G and 8 points; and since he’s not contributing in any other way, one has to question why he’s still on the active roster, since removing his $1.45M seems like a priority right now for Stan Bowman.

Janmark is a candidate to be moved, that much is obvious, likely in a bigger deal that requires Edmonton to dump salary, as in a possible Panarin trade at the deadline.

Mattias’ role with Edmonton has been as a defensive forward, helping the team control play from a defensive perspective. At his best, he’s able to do that.

Trouble is, he’s rarely at his best and has been slipping further down the depth-chart in terms of usage.

His spot on the roster can easily be replaced with one of the several Condors’ players who’ve made a case for a call-up. forwards who can benefit from NHL experience.

According to Hockey Viz, when on the ice, Janmark drives the play at 15% below league-average and also suggest he is, at best, a fourth-liner playing below replacement level.

Based on most accounts, Janmark’s time with the Oilers is winding down.
