OAKLAND, CA — Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker, known artistically as Tame Impala, will be coming to the Bay Area next month as part of a tour to promote his latest album.
The artist will be performing Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Oakland Arena as part of his “Deadbeat Tour.” These are the only stops he’ll make in the Bay Area before heading down to Los Angeles and touring Europe.
The tour follows the release of his fifth studio album, “Deadbeat,” on Friday, Oct. 17.
Parker’s previous albums are critically acclaimed. But music critics believe he takes a musical dip in “Deadbeat,” which has been his lowest-rated album on sites like Pitchfork to date.
Pitchfork rated “Deadbeat” a 4.8, saying that “Parker takes a left turn onto the dancefloor and sounds quite lost.”
“What could’ve been an interesting experience is instead full of hollow songs and half-measures,” according to the review.”
Glide Magazine, however, believes Parker shattered expectations with “Deadbeat,” describing the album as “bouncy” and “infectious.”
“Deadbeat redefines the intricacies that make Tame Impala, and especially Parker, one of the most in-demand collaborators in modern pop,” according to Glide Magazine. “…but this is not an album about what the band has accomplished so far; it sets its sights on the future of Tame Impala.”
Tickets for the upcoming concerts can still be found at resale value through the Tame Impala website.
