KETTERING, Ohio – The fall season has come to a close for the Oakland University men’s golf team, which finished tenth at the Dayton Flyer Invitational at the NCR Country Club – South Course (par-71, 7,048-yds) on Tuesday.
Junior Robert Burns led the Golden Grizzlies in the invitational, earning a top-20 finish for the third time this season. In the third round, he matched his season-best single-round score of 69, which included five birdies.
Jack Zubkus finished in the top-30 with a score of nine-over par. Both Zubkus and Burns improved their scores with each round and finished under par in the final round. Zubkus led the team with nine birdies.
Matteo Rocco, Ellis Kinnaird, and Brennan Sullivan rounded out the scoring for Oakland, with the three golfers finishing within six strokes of one another. Rocco tied for 62nd with a score of 230 (+17), while Kinnaird finished with one more stroke, tying for 65th. Sullivan had a score of 236 (+23) and tied for 71st.
The Golden Grizzlies once again demonstrated improvement throughout the invitational, lowering their team score after each round. With Burns’ top-20 finish, at least one golfer from Oakland has placed in the top-20 in all their invitationals during the fall season.

UP NEXT: The Golden Grizzlies will enter their offseason, but are scheduled to return in the spring. Their first competition will be in February at the Bentwater Intercollegiate hosted by Sam Houston.
