A hit-and-run collision in Long Beach left a bicyclist dead Saturday evening, authorities confirmed.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were called at about 4:48 p.m. to the intersection of Redondo Avenue and East 2nd Street for reports of an injured cyclist following a crash involving a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found an adult woman on a bicycle along with a bystander who had stopped to help. Long Beach Fire Department crews transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
Investigators say the bicyclist was traveling southbound on Redondo Avenue and entered the intersection with East 2nd Street when a gray 2025 Hyundai Sonata heading westbound on East 2nd Street ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and struck her.

The driver fled the scene, last seen continuing west on East 2nd Street from Redondo Avenue. Police said speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash.
The woman’s identity has not been released pending notification of relatives by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
