Numbers that were presented by the CSU show Sacramento State has grown the four-year graduation rate from 8.5% to 30.3% in just 10 years, according to the university’s Public Information Officer, Lanaya Lewis.

Lewis said in a statement that the graduation rates for two-year transfer students also increased significantly, jumping from 25.6% in 2015 to 44.4% so far.

“Kudos to our amazing faculty for leading efforts that allow more students to transform their lives,” Sacramento State President Luke Wood said. “These numbers represent countless students who are now better positioned to create a better life for themselves and their families. There are now far more stories of triumph, resilience, and perseverance. That’s what makes a Sacramento State grad special.”

Sacramento State University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution as well as an Asian American and Pacific Islander-Serving Institution.

The four-year graduation rates for Latine students have increased by 363% and for AAPI students, the school has boosted its rates for students who identify as Asian by 446%, Lewis said.

According to officials, Sacramento State is the only recognized Black-Serving Institution. The university has achieved a 304% increase in graduation rates for students who identify as Black, “reflecting the university’s deep commitment to equity and student success.”

The original framework for GI2025 was started by Sacramento State Emeritus President Robert S. Nelsen, and in 2015, Nelsen appointed the late James Dragna to focus on this initiative. Dragan then launched the “Finish in Four” campaign, where programs and policies reduced barriers for administration and helped students graduate on time.

“Sacramento State believes in our students, and they believe in themselves,” President Emeritus Nelsen said. “Every student who graduates is seeing a dream come true, a dream that will transform their lives and the lives of those surrounding them.”
