A brief medical incident during the Pittsburgh Penguins’ loss to the Anaheim Ducks last Tuesday caused Penguins play-by-play broadcaster Josh Getzoff to miss the second and third periods of the Anaheim game and the next two games in Los Angeles and San Jose.
Getzoff was treated after he fainted during the first intermission in Anaheim. He has been given a clean bill of health and will return to the broadcast Tuesday night when the Penguins host the Vancouver Canucks.
In Getzoff’s absence, Penguins radio broadcaster Joe Brand quickly slid over to the TV side, while color commentator Phil Bourque did play-by-play, including an homage to his broadcast mentor, Hall of Famer Mike Lange, when Bourque yelled, “Slap me silly, Sidney!” following Crosby’s neat deflection goal against the San Jose Sharks.
Getzoff remained on the road trip with the Penguins. The team made a special social media post announcing Getzoff’s return.
