The police update is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. You can watch the update in the live stream at the top of this article.
Background
One person was hospitalized after a stabbing on Oakland University’s campus on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026.
It happened at around 8:15 p.m. Police said they responded to the scene after receiving reports of a fight happening outside Van Wagoner Hall.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, and police said he is undergoing surgery.
The victim was not a student.
Police said witnesses described two suspects. One was described as a man in his early 20s, about 5′8″ to 5′10″, wearing a black North Face jacket, black pants, white shoes with blue on the back, and chin-length dreadlocks. The second suspect was also described as a man in his early 20s, wearing a camouflage jacket with a black hood, black pants, and black shoes, with curly hair.
The incident has left some students feeling uneasy as they returned to classes. Many on campus hope those responsible will be held accountable.
“Everything was on lockdown, we couldn’t even walk around like inside the dorms, it was crazy,” said Ayana Williams, who lives in a nearby dorm.
Anthony Smith, who has worked at the university for 25 years, said he has never witnessed anything like this before.
Gannon Mitchell, off campus during the incident, returned to find multiple news crews and a heavy police presence around his dorm.
“Like all my friends were all texting each other and stuff,” Mitchell said, and described their feelings as “shocked and surprised that something like this really could happen just anywhere, especially at our dorm too.”
Police urged everyone on campus to stay alert, travel in groups, and report any suspicious activity.
“It is kind of scary that he’s just walking around and we have no idea who he is or who he could possibly be, but life goes on,” Williams said.
