Oakland University (OU) in Rochester, Michigan, has announced a $10 million gift from Donna and Walt Young.

The gift will support OU’s Honors College, which has been renamed in recognition of the donors—the first such honor bestowed in OU history. Walt Young—who previously served on the Oakland University Foundation board—and his wife are longtime supporters of the school, have been involved in several fundraising campaigns, and established an endowed fund to support Honors College student travel as part of their academic experience.

“Donna and I have been involved with Oakland University for the last three decades, during which we have seen the growth of character, as well as enrollment. OU has sharpened its focus to nurture future leaders with solid values,” said Walt Young. “The Honors College has been the lead to enhance problem-solving, listening, and empathy skills, and we have enjoyed watching the impact of our study abroad scholarship endowment.”
