Brace yourselves! What the National Weather Service is calling the “coldest storm of the season” is forecast to hit California this weekend.
The Pacific storm system will reportedly bring widespread rain, gusty winds and significant snowfall to the mountains, especially in more Northern parts of the state, including Sacramento, Modesto, Merced, Fresno and San Luis Obispo.
The storm is expected to make landfall on Sunday, February 15, or early on Monday, February 16.
“Timing for this and the following storms will be refined as we get closer to arrival,” reports the National Weather Service. “In the meantime, the first system appears to be the strongest in terms of overall rainfall amounts and rain rates.”
How will the storm affect L.A.?
Temperatures are expected to drop in L.A. beginning on Sunday, with a high of 62 degrees and scattered showers across Southern California. KTLA reports Angelenos can expect light to moderate rain across the county, as well as Ventura, Orange, and San Bernardino counties.
“The latest ensemble solutions are converging on at least 1 to 3 inches of rain for the coast and valleys with the first system Monday and 2 to 5 inches in the mountains,” said the National Weather Service. Experts are concerned about possible road ponding and flooding.
Heaviest rains are expected on Sunday and Monday, though lighter showers will reportedly continue into next week.
