MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary’s got off to a great start in Friday’s dual against San Jose State, taking the doubles point with wins from Sofia Daryaie/Tiana Fox and Madison Weekley/Elif Tuana Gunal. They continued their success with the first singles match win thanks to Madison Weekley but San Jose State roared back, winning the next four duals to snatch the 4-2 victory. 

True freshman Sophie Stanton was the final singles match for the Gaels. She won the first set 6-2 but San Jose State’s Ana Camila Celis Avila clinched the next two sets 6-2 7-5 to seal the 4-2 victory. Weekley’s singles win improved her record to 3-2 on the season while Daryaie/Fox and Weekley/Gunal each picked up their first doubles win of the spring season.

LOOKING AHEAD

Saint Mary’s will head to Davis to take on the Aggies on Saturday, February 14th at 1:30 PM. The match was originally slated for Sunday but was moved up to Saturday to avoid inclement weather. Live scoring links can be found at smcgaels.com.
