Feather River Land Trust announces a free talk exploring assessment of forest fuel treatments and California’s highest trees with Hugh Safford. The event is set for Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Sierra Valley Preserve Nature Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the talk starts at 6. Those interested can RSVP online.
The talk is presented by the California Native Plant Society’s Sierra Valley and Tahoe Chapter. Safford is a research ecologist in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California, Davis.
First, he will discuss lessons learned from his work in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin after two decades of assessing forest fuel treatment effects and effectiveness in the central Sierra Nevada; then he will talk about chasing California’s highest trees and how climate change and bird dispersers are impacting Sierra Nevada subalpine forests, said organizers.
