SAN DIEGO, Calif. — A strong Pacific storm system moves into San Diego, bringing heavy rainfall and fresh snow to San Diego County Monday through Thursday.

The first sign of light showers hits the county on Monday morning.

Throughout the afternoon on Monday, heavy rain becomes widespread across the county with the potential for thunderstorms into the evening.

By Tuesday morning, some part of the county will already have accumulated one inch of rain.

As subsequent rounds of showers move across the region, the coast and inland valleys could see nearly two inches of rain.

The San Diego River is expected to reach monitor stages on Monday and again on Wednesday, bringing flooding to neighboring homes and businesses.

Meanwhile, the mountains could get between two-and-a-half inches and nearly four inches of rainfall, plus snow levels will drop to 3,500 feet on Wednesday, bringing the chance for about one inch of fresh powder to the San Diego mountains.

East County will see the strongest wind gusts, ranging from 30 to 40 miles per hour, with isolated gusts up to 70 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory across the county and a gale warning for our coastal waters because of the strong winds.

Along the coastline, NWS also issued a high surf advisory, cautioning swimmers and surfers of large breaking waves between eight and 10 feet, with some sets up to 13 feet.

With increasing surf, there’s a high risk of rip currents, and the San Diego coastline could experience potential flooding.

With a cold front passing through on Monday, temperatures will fall below average.

Highs across San Diego County will drop to their lowest through the middle of the week.

Temperatures will reach the upper 50s in the coastal communities, inland valleys, and deserts.

Mountains will drop to the upper 30s, and San Diego likely won’t see much sunshine until next weekend.
