Re “Downtown Coaster extension set to break ground this year” (Feb. 12): Yes! The extension of the Coaster to the Convention Center is welcome, but RideSD is dead on in its observation that the lack of a rational evening schedule is a huge hurdle to increasing ridership. I’m a dedicated fan of taking trains and I’d love to be able to take the Coaster to spend a night out in the Gaslamp (perhaps with a little too much alcohol involved!) and return — after the bars close, not at 9:20 p.m. or 10:40 p.m. That’s how it works in any big city that operates a useful mass transit system.
The midday hole in the schedule needs to be filled as well, and of course there is also nowhere anyone wants to go without their car more than the airport, but hopefully we’ll get there in my lifetime.
