A major winter storm is wreaking havoc on Sierra travel Tuesday morning.
Westbound I-80 is currently closed at the Nevada-California state line due to multiple spinouts over Donner Summit, according to CalTrans.
Feet of snow are expected across the Sierra, leading to widespread travel disruptions through Wednesday. Yet another quick-moving storm may bring additional snow chances Thursday at all elevations as an active winter pattern settles in.
Snow levels will continue fluctuating Monday evening, with the heaviest Sierra snowfall gradually tapering to lighter showers around midnight. Western Nevada foothills above 5,500 feet are most likely to see accumulating snow Monday, while valley floors experience periods of rain and snow mixing. Light accumulations are possible Monday evening, especially north of I-80.
