The three men were outside a vehicle putting tire chains on just east of Johnson Pass Road when the driver of a pickup truck lost control and crashed into them, according to the report. The impact threw one of the men about 40 feet, according to the report.

It’s unclear what caused the pickup truck driver to lose control or whether the snow was a factor.

Two of the men were 23-year-olds, from San Jose and Concord, while a third was a 22-year-old from San Leandro, according to the report.
