(KRON) — Last summer, a fast-rising Japanese BBQ chain based in Los Angeles announced its first Bay Area locations would open in Pleasanton, Milpitas and Santa Clara.
Chubby Cattle first opened only three years ago in Monterey Park (Los Angeles County), but the chain has quickly risen in popularity — already expanding with its first Bay Area outpost in Pleasanton.
The group behind Chubby Cattle is now opening a new concept for all-you-can-eat Japanese Wagyu, owners Chubby Group announced in a press release. The restaurant is named “Wagyu Master” and will open by the end of the month.
Wagyu Master is located at 1410 El Paseo de Saratoga and takes over a space that was previously occupied by The Melt and Tabu Shabu. It is located within the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center.
Tentatively, Wagyu Master plans to open by Feb. 20, but if that does not happen, it will open before February ends, according to a restaurant representative. The San Jose location marks Chubby Group’s second “Wagyu Master” restaurant — the first debuting in Pasadena on Dec. 31, 2025.
The concept claims to be the first all-you-can-eat restaurant with 100% Japanese Wagyu, according to the Wagyu Group news release.

Wagyu Master offers two tiers for all-you-can-eat Wagyu.
Sukiyaki Tasting Menu: $98
Shabu Shabu Tasting Menu: $88
Both tiers have access to the restaurant’s buffet line, which includes unlimited milk tea, desserts and other side dishes. Under both pricing options, there will be Zensai appetizers, chef speciality dishes, A5 Ribeye, A5 Striploin, vegetables, shime course and dessets.
The buffet has at least 80 items, highlighted by Crispy Squab, Beijing-Style Giant Wing, Charred Tongue Heart, live crab, and lobster specialties.
According to the press release, Wagyu Master sources its Wagyu from Japan’s largest Wagyu supplier.
“The future of dining is here — introducing Wagyu Master Pasadena, the first All-You-Can-Eat Shabu in the U.S. featuring 100% Japanese Wagyu,” Chubby Group founding partner David Zhao wrote on LinkedIn. “An authentic, premium experience that brings together craftsmanship, innovation, and community dining — all in one table.”
Chubby Cattle’s first location opened in April 2023 and has gained a social media fanbase of more than 25,000 Instagram followers.
