SOUTH SACRAMENTO, CA — A man was injured when he was repeatedly shot at by Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies on Monday, according to authorities, who noted the man had a gun that was found at the scene.
Deputies saw a vehicle suspected to have been involved in a shooting the previous day driving southbound in South Sacramento and stopped it around 7:30 p.m. near Tiogawoods Drive and Elk Grove Florin Road, “when an officer involved shooting occurred,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
“Both deputies fired their weapons, for a total of five rounds,” the news release said. “The suspect, an adult male, was struck by gunfire an unknown number of times. Both deputies were uninjured.”
The man was taken to a hospital where he remained on Tuesday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.
“The suspect’s handgun was located at the scene,” the news release said.
The sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division is investigating the shooting, which will also be independently reviewed by the county district attorney’s office, according to the sheriff’s office, which added the deputies involved will be on administrative leave pending the probe.
