Incredible video captures the surprising moment three bears charged through the snow at a Northern California ski resort, right in the path of skiers.

It happened Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Northstar California Resort in Truckee.

Witnesses say the bears crawled out of the snow and bushes and ran right in front of oncoming skiers, startling some people who were down on the ground.

The moment was captured on video taken by Barclay Weyhrauch as he rode on a chairlift.

“We thought they were humans at first,” he said. “Then we thought they were big dogs, then everyone realized they were bears and everyone started yelling ‘stop!’”

In the video, a person behind the camera can be heard yelling “stop,” “move” and “get out of here” as the bears ran across the skiers’ path.

One person can also be heard saying, “This is terrifying,” while another remarks that ski resort residents are in the bears’ habitat, not the other way around.

The bears eventually made their way into the wooded area.

The moment serves as a reminder that when you’re in the mountains, you’re in wildlife territory.
