A 21-year-old skier was found dead at Northstar Resort, marking the third skier death there in February.

TRUCKEE, Calif. — A missing skier was found dead Thursday morning at Northstar California Resort, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

After receiving a report of a possible missing person around 11 p.m. Wednesday, deputies said they immediately began investigating.

Investigators found the vehicle of the missing skier in the Northstar parking lot, law enforcement said. They later determined the missing person had gone skiing and did not return.

The Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team deployed 15 skiers, a snowcat and two snowmobilers early Thursday, and the skier was found dead at about 9 a.m., deputies said.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office later identified the skier as 21-year-old Colin Kang, of Fremont.

Northstar said his body was found on the advanced Sugar Pine Glade trail. The resort also confirmed he was an employee of Northstar who was off duty at the time of the incident.

“We are heartbroken by this loss,” said Tara Schoedinger, Northstar Vice President and General Manager. “Our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones, and with the team members who had the privilege of working alongside him.”

Kang’s death is the third at Northstar this month.

A skier died after being involved in a crash on the advanced Polaris Trail on Feb. 15. He was later identified as 53-year-old Stuart McLaughlin, of Hillsborough, California, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

On Feb. 6,  a 26-year-old man from Los Angeles, Nicholas Kenworthy, died in a skiing accident on the advanced Martis trail.
