USD vs. Loyola Marymount

Records: University of San Diego is 11-17 overall and 5-10 in West Coast Conference play; Loyola Marymount is 13-15, 4-11. The Lions won the first meeting 83-63 two weeks ago in Los Angeles.

Series record: Loyola Marymount leads the all-time series, 58-56.

Toreros update: USD plays its final home game as well as its first game since it was announced that Steve Lavin will not return as coach. Lavin will finish the season while Toreros athletic director Kimya Massey gets a jump on the hiring cycle. USD hasn’t played since losing at home to San Francisco 92-79 last Sunday. Guards Toneari Lane and Dominique Ford each scored 16 points in that game. Forward Assane Diop and guards Lane, Ford, Juanse Gorosito and Emmanuel Callas started against the Dons. Lane (10.8), Gorosito (10.2) and Adrian McIntyre (9.7) lead USD in scoring. The Toreros have a minus 4.5 differential in rebounding with 6-9 forward-center Diop (4.9) the only Torero averaging more than 3.6 a game.

Lions update: Jalen Shelley led the Lions with 24 points and nine rebounds in the first meeting with USD. Freshman Jael Martin is from Carlsbad High School. MJ Amey Jr. leads Loyola Marymount in scoring with 14.5 points per game, with Rodney Brown averaging 14. Shelley is the Lions’ third-leading scorer (13.7) and leading rebounder (6.6). The Lions have lost two straight since beating USD.
