FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) — The Fresno Police Department is investigating an altercation between a USPS letter carrier and an elderly man Thursday afternoon that was caught on camera.
The incident happened around 5:08 p.m. near Michigan and Wilson avenues.
Video from a home’s Nest doorbell camera shows the letter carrier dropping off a couple of packages at the front door.
An elderly man is then seen approaching with two dogs, one of which was off leash.
The letter carrier tells the man the dog is loose and says, “I’m protecting myself,” before pulling out a canister of pepper spray.
The elderly man then leaves the dogs and runs toward the letter carrier while shouting profanity.

He attempts to attack the worker, who sprays him.
The man quickly backs away and walks off.
The letter carrier called Fresno police, who arrived about seven minutes later.
Police said the man refused medical attention and was cited for misdemeanor fighting in public.

According to police, the man confronted the postal worker because he believed the letter carrier sprayed his dog first.
