YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KMPH) — Visitors hoping to enter Yosemite National Park amid a powerful winter storm are facing closures, hazardous road conditions, and limited lodging options as heavy snow continues to affect the area.
Yosemite National Park was closed on Thursday due to winter hazard conditions, including heavy snow, road closures, and chain requirements.
On Friday, Max Loewenstein captured an avalanche in the park.

The closure stated that Yosemite National Park was closed through Friday due to heavy snowfall and falling trees.
Some lodging in the park remains available.
FOX26 News interviewed Max Loewenstein via Zoom shortly after he captured an avalanche inside Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite spokesperson Ranger Scott Gediman said Curry Village/Yosemite Hospitality is closed, but Yosemite Valley Lodge and the Ahwahnee are open.
Gediman said people with reservations are allowed to enter the Park via Highway 140.

Gediman also said staff have been moved from soft-sided cabins to hard-sided cabins.
Yosemite National Park will reopen on Saturday, February 21st.
All campgrounds will remain closed until at least Friday, February 27th.
Anyone planning travel to Yosemite during the storm is urged to check official National Park Service updates and the road hotline before heading out.
