(FOX40.COM) — A Sacramento County Superior Court judge sentenced a man to life in prison for the 2021 murder of an ATM technician, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

On June 17, 2021, as James Nguyen was working on an ATM outside a bank near the intersection of Stockton Boulevard and Florin Road, Jimmy Washington carjacked Nguyen’s van, which was parked a few feet away.

Despite Nguyen’s attempt to stop him, Washington drove through the bank parking lot with Nguyen “dangling from the driver’s side window,” the DA’s office said.

Nguyen then fell from the window and was run over as Washington drove away.

According to the DA’s office, Nguyen was in a vegetative state for almost nine months before he died.

A jury convicted Washington of first-degree murder with the special circumstance that the murder was committed during the commission of a carjacking.
