FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A Kingsburg Man is sheltering in place after his flight was canceled outside of Guadalajara amid cartel violence.
He spoke to Action News about the situation but wants to keep his identity anonymous due to safety concerns.
“(On Sunday), we were supposed to fly back to Fresno, we packed up all our bags and as we were ready to go, we were stopped by armed men on the road, telling us the roads were going to be blocked,” the man said. “They seem to be just taking them from whoever is driving them. All the main roads and main access are blocked right now.”

The man and his family were supposed to be on an AeroMexico Flight.
He says he is feeling uneasy because the town nearby has a heavy cartel presence.
The Governor of Jalisco is saying order is gradually being restored in the area.
Merced assemblymember Esmeralda Soria’s family stuck in Mexico
Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria also spoke to Action News, saying both her parents are currently stuck in Michoacan.
“They are just waiting out and seeing if the airport will be open and if flights will be out. A lot of unknowns at this moment, I’m just hoping my parents will return safely,” she said.
Soria says her parents’ flight is scheduled to fly out on Tuesday and so far, it has not yet been cancelled.
She mentioned she is in close contact with the Mexican Consulate in Fresno regarding any updates.
