The violence unfolding in Mexico impacted travelers in the Bay Area.

A flight that was supposed to leave from San Jose Mineta International Airport to Guadalajara Sunday afternoon was canceled.

It’s not just departing flights; a Volaris flight from Puerto Vallarta that was set to arrive in San Jose was also canceled.

Both Air Canada and United airlines said they are temporarily canceling flights to Puerta Vallarta. Delta airlines said its flights to the region may also be impacted through at least Thursday.

The U.S. State Department is advising Americans in Puerta Vallarta and Guadalajara to shelter in place due to cartel violence.

The department is also advising Americans not to travel to Tijuana and Ensenada, and there could be even more canceled flights on Monday.
