Pedestrian fatality

A pedestrian was killed Sunday after being struck by two vehicles while crossing a street in Orangevale.

The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. on eastbound Greenback Lane, west of Main Avenue, when a vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk, according to the California Highway Patrol’s East Sacramento office. A second vehicle struck the pedestrian a short time later, the CHP said.

The pedestrian, described as a man possibly in his late 40s to mid-50s, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:44 p.m., the CHP said.

Both drivers remained at the scene and had cooperated with the CHP’s investigation.

Neither speed nor driving under the influence were factors in the crash. It was unclear whether impairment was a factor for the pedestrian, the CHP said.
