He’s made Americans’ lives and our democracy worse off,” Rep. Thompson said. “President Trump is unpopular because he’s failed to lower costs, failed to fire Kristi Noem, and failed to follow the rule of law. Americans demand answers when he addresses the nation. We will keep holding him to account in the Congress, in the Courts, and in the court of public opinion.”Thompson invited Napa City Council Member Bernie Narvaez. In an op-ed released, Bera said, “As a senior member of the House of Representatives, I feel an obligation to attend the State of the Union out of respect for the president as they outline their vision for our country. This year I feel different. After watching President Trump run roughshod over the Constitution, display utter disregard for Congress, and openly engage in corruption as he and his family use the office to enrich themselves and tarnish this country that I love, I will not give him the dignity of having my presence at the State of the Union.”Rep. Doris Matsui (D) California’s 7th DistrictCongresswoman Doris Matsui will not attend the State of the Union address.”Tonight, I will not attend the State of the Union. I refuse to sit in the House chamber and pretend everything is normal while President Trump’s administration governs through cruelty, chaos, and fear. I will not play along with decorum while families suffer and entire communities are terrorized,” Matsui said. “Let’s be honest about what this speech will be: distortions, empty boasts, and petty grievances. Costs are still rising. Millions have lost access to health care because of Donald Trump’s reckless policies. And it’s clear his priorities start and end with himself. This moment doesn’t call for polite applause lines or political theater. It calls for courage. It calls for resistance. And it calls for standing up — clearly and unequivocally — for the people we were sent here to serve.”Rep. John Garamendi (D) California’s 8th DistrictCongressman John Garamendi said he will leave his State of the Union address guest seat empty to honor a 73-year-old grandmother who was detained by ICE.”I am dedicating my State of the Union guest seat to my former constituent, 73-year-old grandmother Harjit Kaur. She is unfortunately unable to attend because she was cruelly deported to India in the dead of night. This seat is for her and every person across the country that’s been caged, detained, and killed at the hands of Trump’s secret police force. Let her empty seat be a stark symbol of the human cost of Trump’s cruel deportation agenda,” Garamendi said.Rep. Rabell-González has been a trusted partner and source of warmth and acceptance during these chaotic times – I’m incredibly honored to have him as my guest and to bring these stories to Washington as we work to rein in these out-of-control attacks.”Rep.
