BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Tuesday is World Spay Day and one local shelter is doing its part to reduce overpopulation in our community.
Kern County Animal Services is hosting an event at the shelter, located at 3951 Fruitvale Ave. KCAS will be fixing pets for just $20, and if you reside within zip codes 93305, 93306, 93307, and 93308, services are free.
The global campaign was founded in 1995.
Nick Cullen, director of Kern County Animal Services, joined 17 News at Noon to discuss tomorrow’s event.
“We’re doing what we are usually doing, and that is fixing as many animals as we can,” Cullen said. “We have a goal of 200 spay and neuters tomorrow. We have 223 appointments already lined up.”
Cullen said the day serves as nationwide acknowledgement of the need for spay and neutering.
