If you’re the kind of person who keeps a sturdy umbrella and strong sunblock in your car, you’ve likely had an easy time dealing with our winter weather.

San Diego County has rhythmically moved from periods of heavy rain to stark sunshine and back again.

We’ll be in sunshine mode at least through Sunday and possibly into Tuesday. Forecasters say there’s a long-shot chance of moisture dropping south around Monday. But there’s no indication of a substantial storm as the region moves into March, which can be among the most volatile months of the year. San Diego received nearly 4 inches of rain in March 2023.

The weather service says it is certain that this week’s temperatures will jump going into the weekend, especially on Friday. Forecasters project the following highs: Oceanside, 76; San Diego International Airport, 79 (13 degrees above average); San Ysidro, 82; Alpine, 86; Escondido, 88; El Cajon, 89; and Borrego Springs, 95. That community usually doesn’t reach 100 until late March or April.

The surf forecast is grim. Local beaches will get waves in the 1-to-2 foot “ankle-breaker” range over the next few days. Sea surface temperatures are running from 59 to 62 degrees.
