FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The Fresno Police Department is investigating a homicide after an elderly man was found dead inside his apartment earlier this month.

Officers responded around 1:59 p.m. on Feb. 12 to an apartment complex near First Street and Dayton Avenue for a welfare check on 72-year-old Leon Conway.

Neighbors told police they had not seen or heard from Conway for several days.

When officers arrived, they forced their way into the apartment, where Conway was found dead.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation.

An autopsy later determined Conway suffered blunt force trauma to his body, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Detectives say Conway lived alone but often allowed different individuals to come and go from his residence.

Investigators believe Conway may have been involved in an argument with one of those individuals, which escalated into a physical assault.

Police have not announced any arrests.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to follow up on leads.
