FIRST PITCH

Long Beach State will return home to Bohl Diamond at Blair Field to host a six-game weekend featuring BYU and Washington State. The Dirtbags open the stretch Wednesday, Feb. 25, against BYU at 6:05 p.m., then face Washington State on Friday, Feb. 27, at 6:05 p.m., before hosting BYU on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1:05 p.m., and closing the weekend Sunday, March 1, against Washington State at 12:05 p.m. All Long Beach State games will stream on ESPN+, except for the Feb. 28 matchup against BYU.

 

In addition to the Dirtbags contests, two neutral-site games will also be played at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field: BYU vs. Washington State on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 1:05 p.m., and Washington State vs. BYU on Friday, Feb. 27, at 1:05 p.m.

SCOUTING BYU

BYU enters the week with a 4-3 overall record, all coming on the road, and has won three of its last four games, including back-to-back victories over UC San Diego (9-7) and UC Riverside (11-3).

Offensively, the Cougars are hitting .252 as a team with seven home runs and 37 RBIs through seven games. Ezra McNaughton has paced the lineup with a .344 average, three doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs, while Crew McChesney (.276, 2 HR, 6 RBI) and Ryder Robinson (.267, 2 HR) provide additional power in the middle of the order.

On the mound, BYU has posted a 4.20 team ERA and is holding opponents to a .176 batting average. Ashton Johnson (0.87 ERA, 10.1 IP) has been a key bullpen arm, while Cayson Bell has been dominant in limited action with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.32 WHIP. The Cougars have also recorded two saves and 57 strikeouts in 60 innings.

 

SCOUTING WASHINGTON STATE 

Washington State Cougars baseball enters the week at 3-4 overall, having played all seven games on the road to open the 2026 season.

Offensively, the Cougars are hitting .215 as a team with 49 hits, 12 doubles and two home runs through seven games. Max Hartman has been their most consistent producer, batting .320 with a team-high seven runs scored, eight hits and a .520 slugging percentage. Dustin Robinson is hitting .357 with four RBIs and a .550 on-base percentage, while Ryan Skjonsby has driven in a team-best six runs. Washington State has drawn 21 walks but has also struck out 79 times and is 6-for-9 in stolen base attempts.

On the mound, the Cougars carry a 5.12 team ERA, allowing 42 runs (33 earned) in 58 innings. Nick Lewis (2.89 ERA) and Griffin Smith (5.79 ERA) have handled starting duties, while Trevor Stowe (2.45 ERA) and Scott Rienguette (3.60 ERA, one save) have provided stability out of the bullpen. Opponents are hitting .283 against Washington State, and the Cougars have issued 35 walks compared to 40 strikeouts.

 

AGAINST THE OPPONENTS

vs. BYU

The Dirtbags hold a 9-7-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Cougars. The last meeting between the programs came during a three-game set in 2004 at Blair Field, where Long Beach State won 3-1 victory.

 

vs. Washington State

Long Beach State leads the all-time series against the Cougars, 12-6. The teams last met in 2018 at Blair Field, when the Dirtbags earned a 5-1 win in the most recent contest.
