Another public school district is discussing teacher layoffs.

Alum Rock district leaders stated they are in such a difficult situation that all options are being considered, including laying off up to 38 employees.

The district notified parents of Thursday night’s discussion about laying off school employees, including three school liaisons.

The district has a projected budget deficit of $8 million because of a loss in grant funding and declining enrollment.

Two years ago, the district closed six schools. Thursday, the board could vote to cut 38 positions.
