The Bishop’s School girls water polo team, fresh off its eighth consecutive CIF San Diego Section Open Division title, fell in the opening round of the Southern California Regional tournament to San Marcos of Santa Barbara on Feb. 24.

The Knights, the fourth seed in Division I, were edged 7-6 by the fifth-seeded Royals, ending their season.

The news was much better for La Jolla High, which made the regionals as the top seed in Division II and easily defeated No. 8 Glendora 18-6 on Feb. 24.

Next the Vikings will take on No. 5 Carlsbad at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb 26, at the Coggan Family Aquatic Complex on the La Jolla High campus.

La Jolla High advances to title games in girls and boys soccer

Meanwhile, in soccer, La Jolla High’s girls and boys teams both will play for their division championships in the San Diego Section after posting semifinal playoff victories this week.

The Vikings girls, the No. 2 seed in Division II, edged No. 3 Mission Bay 1-0 at home Feb. 25 and next will play for the title against No. 1 seed Del Norte at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Montgomery High School in San Diego.

The boys team, the third seed in Division IV, also scored a 1-0 victory in the semifinals, defeating second-seeded Montgomery on the road Feb. 24.

The division championship game will pit the Vikings against No. 9 Mira Mesa at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley. ♦
