Our eclectic city has long been a hub for talent — especially the local kind. From singers and artists to incredible musicians, creativity is everywhere, even if discovering it can sometimes feel like finding a needle in a haystack. That’s where Bay Beats comes in. The San Francisco Public Library’s local music streaming platform champions Bay Area artists, with community jurors selecting standout albums each year for listeners to stream. Now, the Public Library is bringing that talent to the stage with a free concert series for all to enjoy.

The concerts are hosted in different public libraries in the Bay Area — a fitting nod to all things local, and filled with homegrown musicians. After all, what’s more punk than the public library? If you can’t make the upcoming Bay Beats dates, there are plenty of other shows in equally unexpected spaces featuring talented local artists, from The Jazz Room at The Palace Theater to the Candlelight concert series, staged in a range of, let’s say, unusual venues.

The series includes five concerts showcasing a wide range of artists and vibes. There’s everything from intimate singer-songwriters to a full afternoon of punk featuring three Bay Area bands, a jazz performance by a musician described as “central to the creative music world of the West Coast,” and a country and folk–themed afternoon with more local legends taking the stage. So really, whatever you’re after, you’ll find it here — and it’s completely free.

More Bay Area live music to feast your ears on

Beyond the library walls, the Bay Area’s music scene continues to pair standout local talent with distinctive settings. SFJAZZ is hosting a tribute to Miles Davis at the Minor Auditorium, while The Jazz Room brings top local musicians to the stage in celebration of the legends who shaped the genre. For something a little more innovative, the Candlelight concert series transforms unique venues with new additions like 90s hip-hop and Bridgerton on strings — proving great music can thrive anywhere.
