Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray recently returned to the lineup after missing nearly six weeks due to a left ankle injury.
Murray could be sidelined again after reinjuring the same ankle in the first quarter of Wednesday’s game against the Houston Rockets.
Murray left the game after rolling the ankle with 3:23 to play in the opening period at Toyota Center in Houston. He limped off the floor and headed straight to the locker room for attention from the team’s medical staff. A short time later, the Kings announced that Murray would not return.
Murray, 25, has been plagued by injuries in his fourth season since coming out of Iowa as the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA draft. He has only appeared in 23 games, averaging 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.6 blocks.
Murray missed the first 15 games of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. He missed 20 games with the left ankle sprain before returning last week.
The Kings, who snapped a franchise-record 16-game losing streak with Monday’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies, have been besieged by injuries this season.
Domantas Sabonis has missed 41 of Sacramento’s 60 games. Murray has missed 37 games. Zach LaVine has missed 21 games.
The Kings recently announced that LaVine (finger), Sabonis (knee) and De’Andre Hunter (eye) will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgical procedures to repair their injuries.
