19-year-old Andre Sontay Avant Jr. was found dead in Commerce Township near the Proud Lake boat launch on Wixom Road.

Now, two other 19-year-olds are being held in jail without bond after being arraigned for allegedly using a firearm in the commission of a felony in the slaying Avant.

Dshaun Omar Hatton-Street of Romulus and Stephan Larryl Shaw of Taylor were arrested on open murder charges.

“From the moment this young man was discovered, our team was committed to uncovering the truth,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “In just over a week, our team developed the information needed to make these arrests. I am proud of their work and their dedication to ensuring those responsible are brought before the court and held accountable.”

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office alleges that the suspects and the victim all knew each other, but none had any connection to the area where the crime occurred.

Law enforcement says that a third individual was initially also detained with the two suspects in the slaying investigation but has since been released.

“Once again, a young person has been lost to gun violence,” said Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “Andre Avant did not deserve to die. We will do everything in our power to hold his killers accountable, but it’s not enough. We have to start striking at the root causes of gun violence, and treat it like the public health crisis it is.”
